PhotoLust is an interactive photography resource for photographers of all ages and skill levels.  There's lots of useful stuff in the collections in the favourites gallery and the journal, artists and photographers to be inspired by in the journal features, and you can get involved by submitting your work to the gallery and answering polls (which will also help shape the future of the project).  If you have any questions or suggestions, get in touch!

PhotoLust IS NOT A CLUB, so you don't have to join and there are no members. It's a project, a group, a collective mission, or any word you fancy that describes something that's open to everyone who wants to get involved.  Anyone can watch the account to keep up with journals, polls and submissions.  You don't have to apply or be approved to get involved.  If you watch the account, I'll watch you back to keep an eye on news articles you submit.

Often I find myself shooting in less than ideal conditions and if I waited for perfect weather or light I’d rarely get a chance to shoot, so one of the things that I wanted to teach myself was how to photograph insects using a mix of natural light and flash. Since portrait photographers often under expose the ambient light in a scene and then use a flash to expose the subject I thought that would be a good place to start. After reading several examples at Strobist (a site that you should all be reading as well) I set out to play. This is what I’ve learned so far…
The trick is to keep the sun at an angle that's either to the side or behind you. The sun is going to be your light source for the background, and the sun + the flash will be your light source for the subject. You want to under expose the background to force the colors to saturate (I'm not shooting in good light) and to use just enough flash to keep the subject from being too dark to see any detail. Every month, you will be invited to submit your own work to PhotoLust's gallery.  Some months will have submission themes and some will be open submission (no theme) so please keep an eye on the journal so you know what you're submitting to!

Submissions are only open for two weeks(ish) out of every month to give me plenty of time to catch up with all your notes, and are limited to ONE submission per person per month, so please check the dates before you submit anything - help me stay sane!

Anyone can submit to PhotoLust, but I do ask you to please watch the account before you submit.  If all the other watchers will be seeing your submissions in their devwatch, it's only fair that you see theirs too.

If there's anything that you'd like specific critique on, feel free to include in your submission note a short message which I will add to the description of your piece in the gallery.  You don't have to do this if you don't want to, but it is a good opportunity to ask for critique.

These are featured because I like the photos and want to share them, and I only look at the deviant who submitted them to check that they aren't club submissions.

PLEASE don't gripe about how many comments, favs, views or DDs any of the pictures of the artists who submitted them have.  I don't care.  I don't look at that stuff.  I'm only interested in the individual images and how fab they are.
